The District has warbled

The November edition of The District Warbler is now a thing that exists. Included in this edition is an account of our talk at Cambridge Architectural Research, plus work for St John’s College, the development of Waterbeach Barracks, Norwich University of the Arts and artist Lawrence Epps.

Tuesday 1st November

The big four-oh…oh

The Perse School recently celebrated its 400th birthday. We couldn’t find a cake big enough to fit all those candles so we made an anniversary campaign identity, under which the school could celebrate its milestone anniversary.

Friday 21st October

An exclusive invitation (not for you though)

If you were lucky enough to receive one of these beautiful items through your letterbox it meant you are a very important person, soon to be enjoying a private viewing of the work of French photographer Claude Cahun at East GalleryNUA, the newly relocated public gallery at Norwich University of the Arts (subject to your diary). We think our invitation cleverly provides a canvas for the attached giveaway art postcard, while the hand stamped dates gives it a personalised, bespoke feel.

Tuesday 4th October

You should feel Matt’s biceps

This summer the River Great Ouse was the site of much boat-related shenanigans as four virile young men, including our own Matthew Bagnall, got to grips with the two inflatable canoes they planned to row 170 miles from coast to coast across England’s fair canals within 10 days in memory of Mollie Barton. They (spoiler ahead) did it, and in the doing raised loads of money for the Childrens’ Liver Disease Foundation. They are closing in on their goal of £5,000. Please support them in this admirable endeavour.

Tuesday 20th September

Oh lordy lordy have we been busy

Been a bit of a poor show on the old news page updates. We can only offer a genuine apology and mumble something about subscribing to our enewsletter. Lots going on, including the introduction of our latest addition to the team: Ed Lock. Isn’t he a good looking boy?

Tuesday 23rd August

Health and safety first

The cameras have been rolling in the studio this week as we’ve been doing some test shoots for an upcoming promotional film for St John’s College, Cambridge. Here’s a sneak peak of a couple of fancy dans in their best safety get up. What are they about to do with those hammers?

Check out the size of our news

It’s appointment reading for the discerning The District acolyte. It’s The District Warbler and the latest edition is now available for your perusal. Alun’s dad is a big fan (not pictured).

Finding beauty in the glitch

Simultaneously delighting the design blog community and scaring the mailman is this poster by our own Mark Jones, a result of his exploration into the interesting typographic forms and shapes created by computer glitches. It’s has been selected for inclusion in Ficciones Typografika, which is curated by Erik Brandt on his garage wall in Powderhorn, Minneapolis.

Wednesday 27th July

Check out this girl’s skills

Would you believe this was drawn by a 15 year old? Georgia’s been acquiring some work experience in our studio this week before starting her A-levels. When she whipped out her portfolio we were impressed enough to suggest we get it up online. She’s available for commissions, bar mitzvahs and parties.

Friday 8th July

Win a hamper and a white sports jersey

Look at this delightful white sports jersey. One could wear it whilst going for a run or perhaps for a game of squash. One could even play football in it. And it could be one’s (yours) if one (you) enter(s) our Euromoments competition. It closes on Sunday and the winner will spend the rest of the summer resplendent their beautiful new white t-shirt that is almost definitely not connected to the England national team. And even if it was you (one) could always wear it inside out. On reflection, perhaps we should have led with the Fortnum & Mason hamper.

Thursday 7th July

Show us your art

This is a bit of video we surreptitiously took in the Vagina Room at the British Art Show 8 in Norwich. We weren’t sure if we were allowed to and narrowly missed being caught at it by the Norwich University of the Arts Vice-Chancellor. It is one of a huge array of interesting modern art currently delighting and confusing the people of Norwich in, let’s face it, unequal measure. It’s on until 8 September and well worth a look.

Thursday 30th June

Invaded by a Teenager

We are firm believers of work experience and the opportunities they provide for those involved. So, for four days, we took in a 15 year old Bristolian and showed him the ropes of our “tightly run” operation. Matt (that was his name) showed surprising enthusiasm and a strong aptitude for learning. Judging by his attitude, he learned the basic process of our company, and we learned that some fish had human teeth. And he even wrote this news post.

Friday 24th June

Dinner and a show

Charged by Creative Review magazine with a mission to scout the nation’s hottest new design talent, we’ve been taking in some degree shows. Keep an eye on that esteemed organ for its graduate profiles, if any of our hot tips make the grade we’ll point them out.

Thursday 16th June

Catch us if you can cos we’re the England men

We’ve launched a EURO2016 highlights website in partnership with Fedrigoni Paper. Our picks so far include Modric’s goal of the tournament contender, a masterclass man of the match performance by Bonucci and Norwich City’s own Wes Hoolahan scoring the goal of his life. Plus there’s a chance to win an official England shirt and a Fortnum and Mason hamper. Check it out at euromoments.co.uk.
