NUA MA Degree Show
- Identity development
Every summer Norwich University of the Arts presents the work of its graduating cohort of postgraduate students to the world though the MA Degree Show. A hugely diverse range of creative projects and areas of research are displayed across the University’s campus, including fashion, fine art, design and moving image.
Each year the show has produced an identity for its marketing materials, such as posters, print and digital advertising, wayfinding and associated literature, centred around a piece of work by a graduating student. However, the singular nature of this piece precluded the ability to showcase the range of work on display. For the first time NUA reached out to an agency to develop a solution.
The introduction of a marque for the show creates a unifying element for the show’s materials, freeing the student work element to be flexible across multiple images from different disciplines. The marque itself takes the abbreviation MA from Master of Arts (the type of postgraduate degree awarded at NUA) and interconnects the letters to subtly reference the encouragement of interdisciplinary practice among all the MA courses.
The identity was embedded with visitors in 2015 through pre-show marketing and onsite printed materials and signage, including a giant animated entrance projection. The marque was retained for the 2016 show with the introduction of a new colour scheme to play off a bolder selection of student work images.
